Archive Locks

Within the Administration Module of Perspective VMS is the ability to create, edit, remove and administer archive locks. This is a permissible feature set that must be granted to a User Group in order to access.

As a feature, Archive Locking provides users the ability to "Protect" a selected array of cameras during a date/time range from being deleted during the normal First-In-First-Out (FIFO) routine. This process of locking archives will exclude archive management deletion based on a pre-defined retention period of target days or target size within Cameras

To establish an Archive Lock, a user will provide a descriptive name, select the date/time range and then select the targeted cameras by moving them from the Available Cameras list to the Selected Cameras list. Archive Locks will remain in place until the archive lock is purposefully removed. Once the lock is removed the archives will then be made available for the archive management and deletion process. If they exceed their target retention they will be deleted.

Archive Locks should not be confused with Image Extractions, as these files are not copied out of the archive store, rather they are retained in the Stores itself which does lessen the overall storage capacity of the system. Archive Locks are intended for larger arrays of data than normally used in Image Extractions to provide more time for users to review a large set of archive data in order to identify requisite video for Image Extraction. An example may include a scenario where a suspect was noted on the facility at some point over the course of 3 days. A user would want to protect the video from all (or most) cameras within that window in the event more evidence needed to be gathered at a later time as they may not have the ability to review all of the necessary video data before the retention period is set to automatically expire.
